OxyBioTech.Net - Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Side Effects
Detailed information is provided in the patient handbook. Side effects are minimal yet some patients may
experience the following:
- The most common side effect is ear pressure, much the same as one experiences in flying.
- Another effect is confinement anxiety, which is generally overcome through patient training
and walkthroughs prior to conducting treatments. We have prepared for this effect by
purchasing equipment that is spacious and roomy.
- Hypoglycemia is sometimes experienced. It is generally avoided by requesting that the
patient eat approximately 1-2 hours prior to their treatment session and eating again within
1-2 hours after the session has ended.
- Oxygen toxicity is another side effect that rarely occurs and is generally averted by giving an
"air break" in the middle of the oxygen delivery time. The air break lasts approximately five
minutes. The hyperbaric technologist will review this procedure before beginning the
treatment session.
